Mythological story attached to this temple is that a danav (deamon) named Gayasur persecuted this land so much so that Lord Vishnu himself had to come to earth. To stop Gayasur, Lord Vishnu stepped over his chest. The deamon pacified down immediately but asked for two wishes, Gayasur asked that he should be offered Pind and Mund daily. Since then devotees started to offer Pinds at the foot of Lord Vishnu.
